While a lot of NHL players are well aware of the sacrificing they are making for their families and that their families are making for them, the Flyers spoke about becoming a road family when they travel to the hub cities for what is hopefully a long stay and a deep playoff run.

The Flyers were back on the ice for Day 1 of Phase 3 training camps as they prepare for the return to play and the 24-team playoff that is about to take place and the first practice was a test of conditioning to evaluate where each player is after a four-month pause.

As Phase 3 of the NHL’s return-to-play plan begin, the Flyers unveiled their roster for training camp on Monday morning.

Oskar Lindblom, who exited the lineup after his diagnosis with Ewing’s sarcoma in December, was on the ice and skating during Phase 2 workouts in Voorhees on Tuesday.

Despite the ongoing pause due to the pandemic, voting is underway for NHL awards and the Flyers are sure to be represented with candidates in a handful of categories. 

Over at ESPN.com, Greg Wyshynski posed the biggest question for each of the 24 teams in the playoffs. The Flyers one is quite intriguing. Are these games following the pause, to be played in neutral hub cities, away games for Carter Hart?

On Wednesday night, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that the NHL and NHLPA is working toward a 24-team playoff setup that would be conference-based and it certainly has an interesting structure.

With everything going their way, pushing pause had to be difficult. Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher joined Mike Gill on The Sports Bash on 97.3 ESPN on Monday afternoon and offered his thoughts.

It has been no secret that the Flyers greatest weakness for decades was finding a goalie that had the ability and the potential to get them to the next level. In just two short years, Carter Hart has appeared to transform that discussion.

By now, everyone knows of the viral videos of Kevin Hayes and his nicknames for teammates or mic’d up moments on the ice this season. During the NHL’s current suspension of play, Hayes is letting that personality shine off the ice, and fans have Chuck Fletcher to thank for it shining through.

But for the sake of one of the driving forces behind the success and unity of this year’s team, it was a necessary stoppage that provided a lot of perspective.

Tuukka Rask stole the show, making 36 saves in a shutout to snap the Flyers winning streak at nine games in a 2-0 Bruins win.

The Flyers win over the Sabres, their ninth straight, was a classic formula that good teams follow. Their goalie stole the result and some opportunistic goals were enough.

Carter Hart made 38 saves in helping to lift the Flyers to their ninth straight win, a 3-1 defeat of the Sabres, allowing them to keep pace in the Metropolitan Division with the Washington Capitals in a tie for first place.

The Flyers could have a chance to move into first place in the Metropolitan Division, depending on Saturday’s afternoon’s game between the Capitals and Penguins, when they take on the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night.

For as level-headed and as focused as the Flyers have been on the task at hand and staying in the moment in every game, notably when adjustments have to be made, it’s only natural that some of the excitement is setting in.

The Flyers secured their eighth straight win, defeating the Hurricanes, 4-1, on Thursday night and moving into a tie for the Metro Division lead after Washington lost to the Rangers in overtime.

The Flyers will face a well-rested Carolina Hurricanes team that has not played since a 4-3 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens last Saturday. The Hurricanes are currently the first team out of the playoffs, three points behind the Islanders for the final wildcard spot.

Derek Grant got his first two points as a Flyer, assisting on a shorthanded goal and getting the eventual game-winning goal in the Flyers 5-3 win over the New York Rangers on Sunday afternoon.
