Flyers-Wild: Postgame Perspective

Neuvirth saves Flyers season from brink Embed from Getty Images   As time ticked away and the Flyers just tried to survive with a 3-2 lead, a pass made its way through to Minnesota Wild center Charlie Coyle. He took a split-second to control then fired toward an open net. Michal Neuvirth dove across. The six […]

Is there good reason for Dave Hakstol to keep R.J. Umberger in lineup?

Embed from Getty Images   One of my favorite Simpsons quotes is a classic regarding Krusty's profligacy.  "You took all your money…and bet against the Harlem Globetrotters?!" "I thought the Generals were due!" Certainly many Philadelphia Flyers fans thought coach Dave Hakstol was being just as foolish by keeping R.J. Umberger in the lineup. Coming […]

Figuring out the Flyers penalty kill

Embed from Getty Images   The Philadelphia Flyers have had plenty of things to worry about this season. They've been outside a playoff spot pretty much all season, and one of the leading reasons for that is a combined special teams rank near the bottom of the league. Fortunately, the Flyers power play has recently […]

It has, however, created a vacuum behind […]

Friday Odds and Ends from a Flyers Lens

1) If there was ever a doubt as to how much Sean Couturier means to the Philadelphia Flyers, the second period of Thursday's game in Pittsburgh was a good case in point about how much the player's absence is felt when he is not in the lineup. Even if Couturier had been in the Flyers' […]

Postgame Perspective: Flyers lack typical energy for rival Penguins

The momentum shifted at 19:45 of the first period. The Flyers, who had a 2-0 lead with a pair of power-play goals, watched everything deflate when Ryan White turned the puck over in the Flyers zone and took a slashing penalty. With six seconds left on the power play, at 1:39 of the second period, […]

By the Numbers: Flyers get 2 points with rare shootout win

Game Story This game was thrown out of any normal rhythm early, as Ryan White threw a late, high hit on Tomas Jurco. This resulted in White getting tossed from the game, and giving the Detroit Red Wings an early five minute power play. The Wings had several shots, but overall it was a strong […]
