It is finally here. The Flyers open the 2019-20 regular season from Prague, Czech Republic as they take on the Chicago Blackhawks. Game time is at 2 p.m.

With the start of another season, our Flyers staff takes a shot at some predictions for both the Flyers and the rest of the league.

The Flyers final 23-man roster includes three injured players on the non-roster injured list — but not long-term injury list — and 20 active players. There are a total of 11 forwards and seven defensemen on the roster. To complete the final cuts, Joel Farabee and Phil Myers were sent down to the AHL.

The Flyers came out lethargic and slow, and Lausanne pounced on them for three first-period goals on their way to opening up a 4-0 lead that ultimately chased Carter Hart. A furious rally late was not enough as the Flyers fell to Lausanne, 4-3, in Monday’s preseason finale.

Alain Vigneault asked for surprises during Flyers training camp. With three prospects about to make their NHL debut as the season opens, he finally got what he wanted to see.

Carter Hart finished with 31 saves in 65 minutes and Henrik Lundqvist had 32. In a shootout, Mika Zibanejad had the only goal to lift the Rangers to a 2-1 shootout win over the Flyers.

A veteran-heavy lineup delivered an expected result against the New York Rangers on Saturday night at Wells Fargo Center, getting a 4-1 win for the Flyers’ first win of the preseason.

Saturday marks the final time the Flyers will take the ice at Wells Fargo Center before the home opener in Philadelphia on Oct. 9. Once again, there will definitely be a lot of veterans in the lineup. Game time is at 7 p.m.

The Flyers announced the next round of cuts on Friday, ahead of what was originally scheduled. In total, 18 players were cut, leaving 36 players remaining on the camp roster.

It’s back home for the Flyers as they continue a busy first week of the preseason with a meeting against the Boston Bruins on Thursday night at 7 p.m.

After three vigorous days of training camp practices on the ice, it’s time for the preseason games to begin. The first group of the day was the same lineup that will play in the Flyers preseason opener on Monday.

Day 2 of Flyers training camp continued with the same aggressive pace. Head coach Alain Vigneault came away impressed with Joel Farabee and the line of Kevin Hayes, James van Riemsdyk and Oskar Lindblom.

The first day of Flyers training camp did not come without some bad news. Chuck Fletcher said that there is still a way to go on a new contract with Travis Konecny and that forward Nolan Patrick will be out week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

As training camp begins bright and early on Friday for the Flyers and continues into the weekend with three on-ice sessions each day, here are five things to watch during training camp.

Recently NHL Network listed their Top 20 centers entering the 2019-20 season. Couturier’s name was absent, and it drew the ire of Flyers fans. Take the lack of inclusion for what it’s worth, but Couturier’s value to his own team can’t be understated.

For every team that made a big signing as free agency opened, it is a calculated risk. The New York Rangers landed prize forward Artemi Panarin and are waging their success on him. The Flyers made their bet before free agency began on Kevin Hayes, Matt Niskanen and Justin Braun.

One of the Flyers development camp invites was Carson Briere, son of Danny Briere. For father and son, it is a special week for a kid who grew up with the Flyers in Haddonfield, NJ.

An interesting possibility stemmed from a tweet from former NHL scout Roger Dicklund, could Wayne Simmonds return to the Flyers on a cap-friendly deal?

Early in Vigneault’s introductory press conference on Thursday, it became apparent why Fletcher felt he had found the right person for the job. Vigneault talked at length about the approach he will bring to the Flyers, one that involves approaching the game with the right mindset.

The word going around is that the Flyers are going to be “aggressive” this offseason in the free agent and trade market, looking at all the ways they can upgrade the team. Quite frankly, they have no choice. All you have to do is look across the street for a reminder of just how relevant they are right now.

The Flyers, who have lost four straight games since their playoff hopes were officially dashed a week ago, and have lost six of the last seven games and nine of the last 12 games, close out the 2018-19 season at home against the Carolina Hurricanes.

The season will ultimately be known for the failure to meet expectations, to take that next step in the development of a contender, and the massive fallout behind it.

In total, eight goals were scored in the first period between the two teams, including seven in the first 9:41 of the game, as the Flyers fell into a 5-2 deficit by the midpoint of the first period on the way to a 7-3 defeat to the Blues on Thursday night.

There are just two games left on the Flyers schedule, including one final game away from home which the Flyers will play on Thursday against the St. Louis Blues.

Three games remain for the Flyers over the final week of the 2018-19 season. For the Orange and Black, there’s nothing left to play for but pride and to be a spoiler.

The Rangers handled the Flyers easily on Sunday, as Alexandar Georgiev came through with 29 saves in a shutout win as the Flyers fell to the Rangers, 3-0, at Wells Fargo Center.
