Both teams received power plays in overtime, but it was a call made at the end of regulation and another on Stars captain Jamie Benn in overtime that caused the most talk, leading to the game-winning goal from Kevin Shattenkirk that gave the Lightning a 5-4 win and a 3-1 series lead on Friday night.

The 4-1 result to Dallas was something all too familiar from seasons’ past. The Flyers did a lot right in the game — control the puck, get a lot of shots, defended well and limited shots and chances — but came out on the losing end, and the score wasn’t really all that close.
The Dallas Stars entered Saturday’s game in Philadelphia having lost five straight games. They managed just 16 shots on goal in the back-end of a back-to-back after losing in Pittsburgh on Friday. The Flyers still came out on the losing end, 4-1, to drop their fourth straight game.
We’re at roughly the quarter-point of the NHL season, and the difference between contenders and pretenders is just as murky as it was before the year even started.
