After a busy offseason, is there still a chance for young players to make their impact on the Flyers roster this season? The possibility exists for sure. It always does. The road to get there is just going to be much more difficult this time around.

You don’t have to wait much longer to get your first look at the 2021-22 Philadelphia Flyers. Rookie Camp gets underway on Thursday morning and will run through this Sunday, Sept. 19. Main training camp is right around the corner as well, starting on Thursday, Sept. 23, in preparation for the upcoming season. 

While this development camp is really not the place to do full evaluations of players and where they stand in their journey to the NHL, it is a chance to see their skills up close. Mike O’Connell, hired this offseason as a Senior Advisor to the GM and Player Development, spoke on Tuesday in detail about a number of Flyers prospects, many of which impressed him.

Another veteran defenseman has been added to the mix. The Flyers have signed Keith Yandle to a one-year deal worth $900,000.

The Flyers dropped Tuesday’s game to the Devils by a score of 6-4, snapping New Jersey’s 10-game winless streak. Coupled with a win for the Boston Bruins, it reduced their tragic number to be officially eliminated from playoff contention to a combination of three points gained by the Bruins or lost by the Flyers.

At Flyers training camp this year, 13 prospects had the opportunity to practice and scrimmage with the senior players. Morgan Frost, a 27th overall pick in 2017, was the only member of that group to make the final roster. So where will all of the other prospects be playing? On Monday, reports circulated that Flyers defenseman Matt Niskanen was announcing his retirement. The defenseman confirmed in a statement through Flyers PR and GM Chuck Fletcher offered his thoughts on a conference call.

Ivan Provorov was able to find an ice surface while spending the quarantine with his billet family near Wilkes-Barre. So it should be no surprise, after just two weeks of training camp, that Provorov jumped right back into his usual role, playing 25:39 in the Flyers 3-2 overtime win in an exhibition against Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

Beyond the Flyers 3-2 victory in the exhibition game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday afternoon, it was just nice to have hockey back. For the players, it was just nice to get into a competitive game.

The Flyers get a rivalry matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins, quite the way to make their return to the ice for the first time in nearly five months. Game time is 4 p.m.

The Flyers arrived in Toronto on Sunday afternoon and had their first practice in the bubble on Monday. Leading up to their exhibition game with Pittsburgh on Tuesday, the team focuses on adjusting to bubble life.

In total, 17 forwards of 18 in camp and 10 defensemen of 12 in camp made the roster. All four goalies from camp made the trip. Here is the Flyers final roster for Phase 4.

The Flyers were back on the ice for Day 1 of Phase 3 training camps as they prepare for the return to play and the 24-team playoff that is about to take place and the first practice was a test of conditioning to evaluate where each player is after a four-month pause.

As Phase 3 of the NHL’s return-to-play plan begin, the Flyers unveiled their roster for training camp on Monday morning.

The Flyers brought the roster down to 54 players with eight cuts on Wednesday.

After three vigorous days of training camp practices on the ice, it’s time for the preseason games to begin. The first group of the day was the same lineup that will play in the Flyers preseason opener on Monday.

The conclusion of Rookie Camp is upon us, as the Flyers prospects will take on the Islanders prospects in a game on Wednesday night at PPL Center in Allentown at 7 p.m.
