Reports surfaced this week that the Flyers could start to explore the possibility of a trade involving Ivan Provorov, first discussed on the 32 Thoughts Podcast with Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek.
At Flyers training camp this year, 13 prospects had the opportunity to practice and scrimmage with the senior players. Morgan Frost, a 27th overall pick in 2017, was the only member of that group to make the final roster. So where will all of the other prospects be playing? Team USA – and Flyers prospects Cam York and Bobby Brink – held off a rally by Slovakia to claim a 5-2 win. Team Sweden – and Flyers prospect Emil Andrae – were eliminated on a last-minute goal in a 3-2 defeat to Finland. Team Canada defeated Czech Republic and Russia defeated Germany to round out the final four teams of the tournament.
The World Junior Championships has closed out group play and moved into the tournament portion with the Quarterfinals taking place on Saturday with four games on the schedule. All three Flyers prospects remain in the tournament, set for their own matchups on Saturday.
The Flyers have had some good success in recent years drafting defensemen, from Ivan Provorov and Travis Sanheim to recent picks on the rise like Cam York. One defenseman picked in the 2020 NHL Draft should also be getting some more attention as he puts together a strong season in the Swedish Elite League.
Both the USA – with Flyers prospects Cam York and Bobby Brink on the roster – and Sweden – with Emil Andrae on the roster – are playing in Group B. Through Monday, Sweden sits atop the standings in the Group, with two wins in two games. The US is in a three-way tie with Russia and Czech Republic with one win and one regulation loss.
2019 first-round pick Cam York and 2019 second-round pick Bobby Brink will play for Team USA and 2020 second-round pick Emil Andrae will be on Team Sweden’s roster.

After drafting Tyson Foerster in the first round, Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher said that there will still 15 players he would be happy to draft in the second round. Turns out the Flyers were able to draft two of them on Day 2 as prospects of untapped potential fell to them.
