On Dec. 8, 1987, Ron Hextall was in the middle of his second season in the NHL and the opportunity presented itself in a game against the Boston Bruins at the Spectrum. To that point, no goaltender had actually fired a shot on an empty net and scored a goal.
Alexander Ovechkin scored his 30th goal of the season in the first period of Sunday's game against St. Louis. It was very significant goal. It marked the 10th time in his first 10 seasons in which Ovechkin has reached the 30 goal plateau. He is only the fifth player in NHL history to do so.
The Flyers will look to close out their four-game homestand on Monday with an even record, but it's a tall order, as the Tampa Bay Lightning come to Wells Fargo Center for the second time this season. This will be the third and final regular season between the Flyers and Lightning.
