The emergence of Samuel Ersson has given the Flyers a good problem to have. But a decision looms on who stays with the Flyers moving forward.
Ersson allowed a goal on the first shot he faced in his NHL career and was eventually pulled after allowing five goals. In relief, Hart was back in goal, until he was forced to exit with an injury, sending Ersson back in during a whirlwind 6-5 loss for the Flyers to the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night.
A late goal by Martin Necas forced overtime and Brent Burns scored the game-winner in overtime in a 4-3 loss for the Flyers to the Hurricanes.
Carter Hart kept the Flyers in another game, and this time his teammates rewarded the effort with two third-period goals in a 2-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night.
Over the course of the season suspension, the NHL put together lists of the top plays for each team. There are still several games Flyers fans can look back on with great fondness this season, especially as the team started to make a push for the playoffs and challenged for a division title. So with that, here are our Top 10 games of the Flyers 2019-20 season (so far).
The Flyers have the chance to extend their winning streak to six games on Sunday afternoon, as they once again face the Rangers, this time on the road.
In the middle of a game where the scoreboard showed 4-1 and 5-1 for most of the third period, it is the small defensive plays that will quickly be forgotten, but those little plays have the Flyers where they are. Where they are, on Saturday morning, is second in the Metropolitan Division and on a five-game winning streak.
Friday’s game doesn’t lock the Flyers into anything just yet, but it was another statement that this team continues to put together solid games within the division and draws closer to solidifying their spot. Giroux was a big player in that result again, scoring twice in the Flyers 5-2 win over the Rangers.
Kevin Hayes struck for a pair of goals in the third period against his former team, including the game-winner as the Flyers went into the holiday break with their fourth straight win, defeating the Rangers, 5-1, on Monday night at Wells Fargo Center.
A lot of the bubble players will get a look in Thursday’s preseason game against the New York Rangers, the final one on home ice in the preseason. Game time from Wells Fargo Center is set for 7 p.m.
