The Islanders showed they are a team that has a lot – the talent behind the bench, the depth up front, the defensive structure and the goaltender to get the job done. The Flyers did not show what they wanted to show. The Flyers got off to a slow start and the Islanders buried them in the third with three goals to secure a 4-0 win in Game 1.

The Flyers are one of eight teams remaining, and they get to go against an old foe behind the bench, one who has been in the division for years, but this time with a new team. Here are five storylines to watch in the upcoming series between the Flyers and Islanders.

Less than a minute after tying the game to erase a 3-0 deficit, the Flyers surrendered the game-winning goal to Ryan Pulock with 38.9 seconds left in a 5-3 defeat to the New York Islanders.

The Flyers had the Islanders on the ropes with a 3-0 lead after two periods, but allowed three goals in the third, eventually falling, 4-3, in a shootout.

The end results have not been as desired to start the preseason, but that means very little before the regular season. There are no points on the line and rosters are not fully constructed. All you had to do was look at the two rosters in Tuesday’s game on the road for the Flyers to see the disparity.

The Islanders scored with 1:34 left in the third to force overtime and won the game in the final minute of overtime, defeating the Flyers, 3-2, on Tuesday night in Long Island.

Recent news from around the NHL include a shakeup in Edmonton, the All-Star spectacle in San Jose last weekend, and a big technology announcement that could change the NHL forever.

It was more of the same for the Flyers, who allowed the first goal again and never recovered in a 6-1 loss to the New York Islanders at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday afternoon.

It was difficult to find many positives out of this game, a 3-0 loss for the Flyers to the Islanders, and an injury to Travis Sanheim only added to it.
