The Flyers suffered a 5-3 loss to the Washington Capitals in the preseason finale on Friday night, finishing with a 2-3-1 record in the preseason.

The Flyers return to the ice on Friday night for one final tune-up ahead of the regular season against the Washington Capitals.

The Islanders struck for two goals in the first period and had a pair of power-play goals in the game to claim a 3-0 win over the Flyers.

On Tuesday night, it will be more of a ‘B’ team lineup for the Flyers against the Islanders, as cuts have started to begin, but another chance to see some new faces like Derick Brassard, Rasmus Ristolainen and Martin Jones. 

The Flyers defeated the Capitals on Saturday night, but it was more than just the team winning a game for the first time this preseason. It was the players that really stood out and the coming together of a bunch of new faces to show signs that this season could be different in terms of the mood around the team.

The Flyers top power-play unit got on the board and some newcomers made contributions in a 3-1 win over the Washington Capitals.

Saturday night will present the next opportunity for players to put the drills and systems worked on in camp to the test. As the Washington Capitals come to town, the Flyers will ice a more experienced lineup. Game time is 7 p.m.

You can imagine how the result looked when the Boston Bruins, playing in their first preseason home game, took the opportunity to load up with roughly 90 percent of the NHL roster. It’s hardly a way to evaluate how one team looks against another. It did present some early warning signs that need to be addressed and cleaned up with exactly two weeks remaining until the regular season opener.

The Bruins came away with a 4-2 win over the Flyers in the second game of the preseason for the Orange and Black.  

The Flyers will face the Boston Bruins, playing in their third preseason game so far. They split the first two decisions, both on the road. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

In addition to more work on the ice for the Flyers, Dave Scott, Governor of the Flyers, gave his state of the team in a press conference on Saturday morning.

With more preparations happening on the ice, the story of Day 2 of training camp came off it. Kevin Hayes was not on the ice, as he begins recovering from abdominal surgery earlier this week. He did meet with the media, his first appearance in front of them since the passing of his brother, Jimmy Hayes.

With multiple roster moves throughout the summer, the Flyers are seeking to redeem themselves going into the 2021-22 season.

After a busy offseason, is there still a chance for young players to make their impact on the Flyers roster this season? The possibility exists for sure. It always does. The road to get there is just going to be much more difficult this time around.

Kyle Collington and Kevin Durso take a closer look at Carter Hart’s contract, which is for a very specific amount, and also look ahead to Travis Sanheim’s pending contract and possible arbitration hearing. They also discuss some other things of note around the league. 

The Flyers and goaltender Carter Hart have agreed to a three-year deal with an AAV of $3.979 million, GM Chuck Fletcher announced on Monday morning.

Kyle Collington and Kevin Durso take a closer look at the newest Flyers, including one familiar face returning, plus look ahead to what could be the last order of business for the offseason. In light of that, they also look at if Chuck Fletcher’s active offseason has made the team better. 

The Flyers appear to be done for the offseason, outside of re-signing Carter Hart and Travis Sanheim, and are hoping a majority of their acquisitions turn out to be wins on “quality bets.”

Veteran forward Nate Thompson returns to the Flyers as another free agent acquisition, signing a one-year, $800,000 deal.

Entering free agency, one area the Flyers needed to address was adding another goaltender. They did so quickly as free agency opened, signing goalie Martin Jones to a one-year, $2 million deal.

The Flyers hit the road for six straight games, including five on the West coast. It all starts on Saturday night against the San Jose Sharks, a team that has lost four straight games and 10 of their last 11 entering Saturday’s game.

If Thanksgiving is the marker for being in a playoff position, the Flyers did more than just settle for being among the contenders at the holiday. They padded the margin and made a move further up the standings to cap off a historic month.

The Boston Bruins have vaulted to a 2-0 series lead with a pair of wins at home on the wildcard Carolina Hurricanes. The San Jose Sharks took the first game of the Western Conference Final, but the St. Louis Blues bounced back in Game 2 to even the series.

It was just under a month ago that the San Jose Sharks came into Wells Fargo Center and embarrassed the Flyers in their home opener to the tune of an 8-2 drubbing. The two teams meet again in San Jose on Saturday night.
