The Flyers fell behind in the first, but responded with a strong second and third period to secure their third win of the season against the Washington Capitals, claiming a 5-2 victory in Washington on Wednesday night.

With the Flyers on a six-game winning streak and in second place in the heavyweight Metropolitan Division, it feels like night and day compared to just a year ago.

Derek Grant got his first two points as a Flyer, assisting on a shorthanded goal and getting the eventual game-winning goal in the Flyers 5-3 win over the New York Rangers on Sunday afternoon.

It was the Flyers jumping out to a 3-0 first-period lead and extending it to 4-0 by the end of the second. Two quick Florida goals threatened the Flyers lead, but they added two late insurance goals to seal a 6-2 win over the Panthers.

In his return to the lineup on Monday, the first game in a stretch of six against teams right in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race, the first shot Carter Hart faced found the net. Hart responded by stopping the next 30 that the Panthers took in the Flyers 4-1 win.

The Flyers made the most of a chance to get back on track against the Metro’s top team. The Flyers scored three goals early in the second and added three more in the third on their way to a 7-2 win over the Washington Capitals on Saturday night.

The Flyers took care of business, getting a pair of shorthanded goals, including another from Kevin Hayes, while Brian Elliott made 16 saves in another shutout and the Flyers claimed the 3-0 win over the Red Wings.

Jake Voracek scored the game-winning goal with 1:27 remaining in overtime to give the Flyers a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night.

Against the Washington Capitals, the NHL’s top team in the standings, the Flyers looked every bit the part of the contender they were believed to be before the holiday break, securing a 3-2 win to improve to 14-2-4 on home ice and snap a four-game losing streak.
