Embed from Getty Images In a span of about eight hours, two Flyers defensive prospects showed just how bright the future is. The terms "prospect" and "future" are used loosely here. It's hard to be considered a prospect and part of the future when you're having success at hockey's highest level. Shayne Gostisbehere scored […]
It started when Mark Streit went down with an injury, but Michael Del Zotto really emerged as a workhorse in the last three games. In the Flyers Black Friday game, which went to overtime, Del Zotto played 25:34. In Saturday's shutout win against the Rangers, Del Zotto played 29:20 as the Flyers dealt with a […]
View image | gettyimages.com It's been five games for Shayne Gostisbehere, but I've seen enough. The Flyers should not return the 22-year-old rookie defenseman to the minors after Mark Streit returns from injury, or for any other reason for that matter. The Flyers roster now sits at 26 following the cuts.
For the third time in four preseason games, the Flyers and Islanders will take the ice against one another. The puck hits the ice a little early on Friday night, in light of the Pope’s visit to Philadelphia, with the opening face-off at Wells Fargo Center taking place at 6 p.m.
Ron Hextall has been busy over the last couple of days, trimming the Flyers roster from 62 players to 29. With so many players gone, there were plenty of questions, especially surrounding the return of their three first-round picks over the last two years that carry high expectations and anticipation.
The Flyers roster continues to creep closer to its final state. Six more players will be dropped from the potential Opening Night roster on Friday as the NHL’s waiver period opens.
The cuts continued for Ron Hextall as Wednesday came to a close. After sending Ivan Provorov, Travis Sanheim and Travis Konecny back to their junior teams, 20 more players were assigned to various locations.
