It took all of 30 minutes following the end of the roster freeze for the other 31 teams in the NHL for Chuck Fletcher to make another trade. This one served a key purpose for the Flyers, because without it, not only were they limited in what they could continue to do with the roster ahead of the coming season, but they also wouldn’t even be able to fill all of the roster spots necessary.
There was plenty of excitement in the air as the Flyers played host to the opening games of the series and there were certainly moments of doubt within the series where it seemed like the Flyers would not make it out and continue their quest for the Cup. They needed to find a way to win in Toronto to get it done, and finally did in Game 6, which became a monumental moment for the Flyers.
Chuck Fletcher, the former GM of the Minnesota Wild and currently a senior advisor with the New Jersey Devils, is atop the list of candidates for the Flyers GM job. The Devils granted the Flyers permission to speak with Fletcher regarding the open GM position on Wednesday, according to a report from TSN’s Bob McKenzie.
Several candidates have emerged in reports and there are others out there that at least have warranted speculation. Here are eight names that could be mentioned as possibilities for the open GM job with the Flyers.
