The Flyers go for points in 10 straight games, as they welcome the Nashville Predators for the final home game of 2023.

The Flyers are 9-4-1 on the road this season, entering Tuesday night’s final game of a three-game road trip against the Nashville Predators. 

The Flyers scored three goals in the second period and never looked back, as Felix Sandstrom secured his first NHL win in goal in a 5-1 victory over the Blues on Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Center.

It has reached a new level for the Flyers. This is essentially one great, big reality show. The play on the ice is only one part of the equation, and at this point, the things happening off the ice are becoming bigger headlines, most recently comments from Flyers legend Bobby Clarke on the Cam and Strick Podcast regarding Ron Hextall’s time as GM.

Flyers forward Sean Couturier was named the winner of the Frank J. Selke Memorial Trophy, presented annually to “the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game,” for the 2019-20 season on Thursday.

Despite the ongoing pause due to the pandemic, voting is underway for NHL awards and the Flyers are sure to be represented with candidates in a handful of categories. 

Over the course of the season suspension, the NHL put together lists of the top plays for each team. There are still several games Flyers fans can look back on with great fondness this season, especially as the team started to make a push for the playoffs and challenged for a division title. So with that, here are our Top 10 games of the Flyers 2019-20 season (so far).

Sean Couturier came out ahead in the midseason voting for the Selke Trophy, beating out O’Reilly, who came in third, and Patrice Bergeron, the four-time Selke winner, who finished second. That prompted the thought: could this finally be Couturier’s year to receive some much-deserved hardware?

Jake Voracek scored the game-winning goal with 1:27 remaining in overtime to give the Flyers a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night.

The Flyers faced both the Capitals and Bruins on home ice, and at the time, each was at least in a tie for the most points in the NHL. Their only remaining road game before the All-Star break and bye week is also against a team tied for the most points in the standings. The defending Stanley Cup champion St. Louis Blues await in a Wednesday night matchup.

The St. Louis Blues used two first-period goals to get an edge on the Boston Bruins and never looked back, finishing off an incredible run to a championship with a 4-1 win over Boston in Game 7 to claim the first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

It will require seven games this year to decide a champion, the first time since 2011 that the Stanley Cup Final has gone the distance, after the Boston Bruins defeated the St. Louis Blues, 5-1, in Game 6 on Sunday night.

The Blues scored their second goal of the game seconds after a missed tripping call. It proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 win for the St. Louis Blues over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. The win puts the Blues one win away from their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

Entering the third period of Game 4 in a 2-2 tie, Ryan O’Reilly’s second goal of the game proved to be the game-winner as the St. Louis Blues evened the series at two games apiece with a 4-2 win over the Boston Bruins.

Carl Gunnarsson scored on a delayed penalty call at 3:51 of overtime to give the St. Louis Blues a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final, sending the series back to St. Louis tied, 1-1.

The Boston Bruins have vaulted to a 2-0 series lead with a pair of wins at home on the wildcard Carolina Hurricanes. The San Jose Sharks took the first game of the Western Conference Final, but the St. Louis Blues bounced back in Game 2 to even the series.

Last week, it was already known that the President’s Trophy winners, the Tampa Bay Lightning, were eliminated, as were the Pittsburgh Penguins. Six other teams have joined, and many of them were near the top of the regular-season standings.

In total, eight goals were scored in the first period between the two teams, including seven in the first 9:41 of the game, as the Flyers fell into a 5-2 deficit by the midpoint of the first period on the way to a 7-3 defeat to the Blues on Thursday night.

There are just two games left on the Flyers schedule, including one final game away from home which the Flyers will play on Thursday against the St. Louis Blues.

The Metropolitan Division, featuring Flyers captain Claude Giroux, came away victorious at the 2019 NHL All-Star Game in San Jose on Saturday night, defeating the Atlantic Division in the semi-finals and the Central Division in the championship game.

The Flyers opponent on Monday is another team that has had a disappointing season. The St. Louis Blues are tied with the Flyers at 36 points, but with two fewer games played this season, sit one position ahead of the Flyers in the league standings. Both teams are just one point out of the NHL’s basement.
