Flyers get West coast wake up call

Embed from Getty Images The road trip to California ended in disappointment for the Philadelphia Flyers. In three games against talented Western Conference teams, they returned home pointless. The road trip record: a 4-2 loss in Anaheim on Dec. 27, a 4-2 loss in San Jose on Dec. 30 and a 2-1 loss in Los Angeles […]

Gagner never given honest chance with Flyers

Embed from Getty Images   When the Philadelphia Flyers made the Sam Gagner trade this summer, it was always more about what was going out than what was coming in. The Flyers sent Niklas Grossmann and Chris Pronger to Arizona, and taking Gagner back was the price of doing business. For a few days it […]

Analyzing the Flyers bottom 6 forwards

Embed from Getty Images   As the season began, there might have been some difficulty identifying an order to the Philadelphia Flyers lines. Obviously the top line would feature Claude Giroux but was Sean Couturier going to be considered a Top-6 forward or headman the defensive minded third line? Was Pierre-Edouard Bellemare line the third or the fourth? The […]

View image | gettyimages.com It's been five games for Shayne Gostisbehere, but I've seen enough. The Flyers should not return the 22-year-old rookie defenseman to the minors after Mark Streit returns from injury, or for any other reason for that matter. It's not just because he happens to have more goals scored than the […]

Hakstol not to blame for Flyers struggles

It’s been 18 games and the Flyers are now 6-8-4 after a 3-2 shootout loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday.   After a 4-2-1 start, the fall down in the standings wasn’t expected.   The easy person to blame in the coach – always has been, always will be. But this is […]

Flyers feeling deja vu, something has to give

View image | gettyimages.com Take in these stats. Defenseman Mark Streit leads the team in points with seven in 10 games. Defenseman Luke Schenn has more goals, one, and more points, four, than Jake Voracek — no goals and three points — and Schenn has been a healthy scratch for four games. Expected secondary scorers are […]
