A shorthanded goal by Dale Weise proved to be the game-winner as Anthony Stolarz earned his first NHL win in since April 1, 2017 as the Flyers defeated the Penguins, 4-2, on Saturday night.
It was that kind of night for the Flyers, who hit the post five times and had a goal disallowed in a 3-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night at Wells Fargo Center.
For the Flyers, it’s a game that should serve as a lesson. They did not play well in the second period, certainly not well enough to put any pressure on the opposing goalie through 40 minutes. The 20-minute push in the third was great, but it was too little, too late on this night.
Some typical flaws showed up again on Thursday night and nearly cost the Flyers two points. Instead, a frantic rally and another game-winner in overtime from Ghost earned two points in a wild win over the Arizona Coyotes.
The Flyers trailed 4-2 entering the third, but rallied back to force overtime, where Shayne Gostisbehere scored the game-winning goal to give the Flyers a 5-4 win over the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday night.
The Flyers snapped a three-game losing streak on Tuesday. The Los Angeles Kings snapped a six-game losing streak on Sunday. Which team gets to build on breaking out of their slump. The two face off on Thursday night at 10:30 p.m.
The Flyers begin a four-game road trip against the Anaheim Ducks, who have lost five straight games and are 2-5-1 after starting the season 3-0-1 through four games. Game time is at 10 p.m.
The Flyers get a chance to rebound against the New York Islanders, a team still trying to find an identity after losing their captain via free agency in the offseason. Game time is at 1 p.m.
Getting back on the right side of the win column won’t be easy against one of the NHL’s best and most dangerous lines. The Flyers face the Bruins in Boston at 7 p.m.
