Sam Ersson kept the game within reach early, as the Flyers tied things up in the third and defeated the Vancouver Canucks in a shootout in Friday night’s season opener.
The Flyers battled the Canucks through nearly two scoreless periods, before three goals in 2:06 broke things open, leading to a 4-1 victory.
After trailing by three goals early in the third, the Flyers rallied to pull to within one, falling short and suffering their fourth straight loss, 5-3, to Vegas at Wells Fargo Center.
The Penguins scored two goals in the first period and two more in the second and the rout was on from there, as the Flyers were handed their ninth straight loss in a 4-1 defeat at Wells Fargo Center.
With 10 games remaining on the schedule, it remains to be seen if the Flyers take this win and turn it into some magical last-gasp playoff run that gets them in, but it kept their playoff hopes alive for now.
Carter Hart was back in goal and continued to give the Flyers a chance, turning away seven Pittsburgh shots in overtime. On a last-second two-on-one, Sean Couturier finished off the incredible rally for a 2-1 win over the Penguins, keeping the Flyers dimming playoff hopes alive for another day.
