Another offensive surge for the Flyers, hats on the ice for Cam Atkinson, and lots of smiles in a dominant win for the Flyers over the Devils to bring their winning streak to three games. But there was also a dose of reality that hit the Flyers in regards to what is plaguing the sports world across the nation.
There’s really no end in sight for the Flyers losing trend, not without some serious adjustments. That was fully evident in the most recent defeat, a 5-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Sunday night.
Alain Vigneault announced on Thursday that Rasmus Ristolainen and Patrick Brown will miss Friday’s season opener for the Flyers. In their place, Nick Seeler will play and Max Willman will make his NHL debut.
Thursday’s lineup in Boston for the Flyers second preseason game will feature a bunch of new players who did not suit up on Tuesday night. Only two players will return to the lineup: veteran defenseman Nick Seeler and prospect Tyson Foerster. Foerster had a solid rookie camp and has turned heads so far, clearly drawing the eye of Vigneault to include him among the regulars.
Kyle Collington and Kevin Durso discuss some of the things that have happened so far, the impact of injuries to Kevin Hayes, Sam Morin, and Wade Allison, break down the potential lines, and look ahead to Tuesday’s preseason opener.
A total of 58 players will take part in training camp, which opens on Thursday morning with the first on-ice sessions. There will be 33 forwards, 20 defensemen, and five goaltenders in attendance. Full roster and schedule here.
Kevin Hayes had abdominal surgery on Tuesday morning and will be out 6-to-8 weeks as a result. Sam Morin is out for 6-to-8 weeks following a right knee surgery to have loose bodies removed on Sept. 10. Wade Allison is out indefinitely with a right ankle sprain.
Potential injuries to Wade Allison and Sam Morin have put a damper on Flyers training camp, still a few days away from getting underway.
The Flyers 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers rookie squad was secondary to the potential loss of Wade Allison, who exited in the second period with an apparent leg injury. There was no update on his status postgame.
In the first of two games this weekend against the Rangers to close out Rookie Camp, the Flyers picked up a 6-3 win on Saturday.
