Temple Fires Head Football Coach Stan Drayton
The Stan Drayton era at Temple University has come to an end. As announced by athletic director Arthur Johnson, Drayton has been relieved of his duties as Temple football’s head coach effective immediately. The decision comes a day after Temple needed overtime to defeat Florida Atlantic in American Athletic Conference play.

Drayton, 53, arrived on Broad Street prior to the 2022-23 season as the replacement for Rod Carey. The former Texas Longhorns assistant coach was unable to turn around a program that has been reeling since the departure of Geoff Collins following the 2018 season. Drayton accumulated a 9-25 record in two-plus seasons at Temple, including a woeful 4-18 record in The American. The Owls are headed to their fifth consecutive losing season. Defensive coordinator Everett Withers will take over as interim head coach until a new coach can be found.
