This game was without a doubt the best of the Phillies-Mets series. Roy Halladay started this day game, and you know how Halladay likes to kill our N.L. East rivals!
Doc tossed 7 scoreless innings for the Phils today, allowing only six hits, and issuing one walk, striking out seven. He took the win, which was career win number 170 for him. His earned run average is now down to just 0.69.
If you’re looking for an inning by inning recap, you’re not going to find one here today, because frankly, the Phillies’ offense was just too powerful and this recap would end up being over a thousand words. No thanks.
Any who, today was not a good day to be a baseball at Citizens Bank Park. A total of 16 hits were smacked off of the bats, four of those hits coming from Wilson Valdez, which was a career high for him. Everybody hit today, even Roy Halladay who lined one up the middle in the sixth innning.
Placido Polanco went 2-5 today with four RBI. Jimmy Rollins and Shane Victorino also went 2-5, but Shane drove in one batter. Raul Ibanez hit his first homerun of the season in the seventh, scoring two.
Here’s something that will make your eyebrows raise; every lead-off hitter that came to the plate for the Phils made it on base. Not too shabby, Phillies.
The offense was there, no doubt about that, which is why the Phillies won today, 11-0, and are now 5-1 in 2011.
Next game: Tomorrow night at 7:05 in Atlanta. Cliff Lee will take the mound against Tim Hudson in the first away game of the season. Time to tomahawk some baseballs!
