There are lots of ways to look at the 4-5 Phillies so far, and some blogs have made them all negative. Let me give you another one- Cole and Doc have made it close to impossible to win 4 of the first 9. That leaves just 5 games with a shot to win, and the Phillies have won 4 of them. Presuming that at least Cole is going to get it together, they may just be good enough.
It's important not to make too much of beating the Mets for 2 of 3 games. There was lots of good stuff in this series, including some power (whew, where has that been?), and some good pitching. Dom Brown's home run last night might not have landed yet. The bullpen was both finally used right last night, and pretty good in the series.
The Phillies go to Miami now for the weekend, to face the worst team in the division. The Marlins are 1-8 right now. Even 2 of 3 would put us at .500, a sweep takes us over. Next week the schedule gets much harder, with the Reds and Cardinals. It would be nice to walk in with a nice record to face those teams.
