The Philadelphia Flyers evened their preseason record to 2-2 with a 2-0 shutout win on Wednesday night over the New Jersey Devils in front of 7,291 fans at the PPL Center in Allentown.

The Flyers are now a perfect 2-0 in preseason games at the home arena of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, their AHL affiliate. However, Wednesday night's game had the physical feel of a late-season game more than just a preseason scrimmage.

The first period was very physical and looked like the Flyers and Devils games of the past. The play was fast paced and the hitting was hard, even resulting in a fight. Seth Helgeson to exception to a hit from Colin McDonald behind the New Jersey net, and after some pushing and shoving, the two dropped the mitts for a pretty even scrap.

The period didn't have much excitement in terms of offense with the teams combining for 15 shots on goal. New Jersey held the shot advantage after 20 minutes, 8-7.

The hitting picked up right where it left off in the second, but Joseph Blandisi crossed a line and got called for interference just 24 seconds into the frame. While the Flyers did not connect on the power play, they would open the scoring just minutes after the penalty expired.

Brayden Schenn won a face-off back to Andrew MacDonald, who blasted a one-timer through traffic. Before hitting the net, Travis Konecny would get a piece to put the Flyers up 1-0.

Konecny would add an assist later in the period by feeding Michael Raffl a pass through the slot that he was able to bury behind Keith Kinkaid to make it 2-0.

Alex Lyon would enter the Flyer net halfway through the period, splitting the time in the game with Anthony Stolarz as head coach Dave Hakstol had indicated prior to the game.

Another fight would break out before the end of the period, this one between Ben Thomson and Mark Alt. Alt left the game after the fight and did not return.

The third period continued the game's physical identity, as the hitting just kept coming. Each team would get multiple power-play chances, but the goalies stood tall and Lyon helped preserve a shutout for the Flyers.

The Flyers pulled the victory out on a combined shutout from Stolarz and Lyon, the second straight for the Flyers after Steve Mason went the distance without allowing a goal on Tuesday. The loss was the first of the preseason for the Devils.

3 Stars of the Game: 3rd – Anthony Stolarz - 11 saves on 11 shots, 2nd – Michael Raffl - goal, 1st – Travis Konecny – goal and assist

Standout Star: Travis Konecny

Konency needed to have a big night to try to solidify his chance at making the team's roster at the end of camp. Boy, did he have a big night. Maybe it's something in the Allentown water, but Konecny loves playing in PPL Center. Whether or not he makes the Flyers at the end of camp is yet to be seen, but you can't say he didn't give it his all.
