The Houston Astros seem intent to acquire Phillies closer Ken Giles; deal would include “better prospects”

Sometimes misplaced value is no help.  If I have a beat up 1986 Hyundai Excel, commonly called one of the worst cars ever made, my money would be better spent buying a new vehicle before I spend thousands of dollars on new rims.   That is where the Phillies find themselves right now: they have a premium closer but have yet to fully acquire a new vehicle.  Enter the Houston Astros, who have their core and want to add a solid complimentary piece.

Jon Heyman reports that the Astros are still pushing for Giles:

And it is those "better prospects" that will help the Phillies more forward.

Just a reminder: this is not the Phillies "getting rid of" Ken Giles.  This is the Phillies acquiring other players that they need more.  A team like the Astros, still with some payroll limitations, would be willing to overpay in terms of prospects so that they could allot their limited dollars elsewhere.  They have the new vehicle and having some brand new, flashy rims would be the perfect touch.   Stay tuned.
