Adam Morgan will miss most of 2014. If you're the average fan, you may not know much about him, but he was the Phillies #2 rated pitching prospect before the 2013 season. He partially tore his rotator cuff, pitched poorly with it for a bit, then missed a large chunk of the season rehabbing. He came back, pitched well, and seemed over it. He wasn't, he had surgery, and now he's out.
Morgan figured to be a piece of the 2014 IronPigs rotation. Right now, Jon Pettibone slots in as their #1. Sean O'Sullivan, Jeff Manship, Cesar Jimenez, Greg Smith, and Chris Bootcheck all have minor league deals, and David Buchanan is probably back. Yes, they have at least five starters, not even considering Jesse Biddle, but no, they don't have many major leaguers in that group.
God willing, it won't matter. If Miguel Gonzalez, Kyle Kendrick, and Roberto Hernandez go 30 starts each, everything's fine. If not, the Phillies are in trouble.
