Pierre
Phillies outfielder Juan Pierre has never been a power hitter in his career. With just 17 career home runs in his 13-year career, Pierre has always been noted as a singles hitter and speed demon on the base paths. Pierre played at the height of his career during the steroid era of baseball. In an interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer, Pierre talked about how he has played the game so well, but not able to show up on the super stats pages.

Pierre, however, dropped a gem of a quote regarding his play.

“With all the computers, the cybergenics [sabermetrics], whatever they do, I think I rate the lowest possible in those things. The things I do don’t show up in box scores. Sacrifice bunting doesn’t make any sense to do. They don’t look at the guy going first to third or taking that extra bag.”

Pierre, of course, meant to say sabermetrics, the  specialized analysis of baseball through objective evidence, especially baseball stats that measure in-game activity. Cybergenics is a weightloss and nutrition supplement.

I guess Pierre was just mixed up with his words, or he really is losing it.
