The Good:
- First and foremost, the Sixers won! And then they won again!
- Michael Carter-Williams has been playing out of his mind lately, putting up triple-double averages. Over his last five games, MCW is averaging 19.6 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 12.2 apg. The last person to have a stretch like that was Magic Johnson.
- Robert Covington has quietly put together a nice run of shooting, hitting 60% of his threes so far this month, averaging three made treys per game. He’s also averaged 18 points per game this month.
The Bad:
- Tony Wroten being out has seemingly demonstrated that Carter-Williams is a much better player when he is not on the floor with Wroten. As noted above, MCW has been playing great lately, which coincides directly with Wroten’s absence from the lineup. One theory why is that both players tend to drive to the bucket, and it limits the overall spacing on the floor.
- Michael Carter-Williams trying to talk trash and keep up with Russell Westbrook. Sorry bud, but you’ve got a long way to go and even in the most optimistic of spirits, I have a hard time MCW ever being as good as Westbrook. Oh, and your team only had one win up until that point.
The Ugly:
- Luc Richard Mbah a Moute’s shooting. Overall, there is little upside to his game and frankly he is wasting minutes of development for other players.
- The game on Wednesday versus Minnesota. Even the most passionate of basketball fans have to admit that was a game very difficult to watch, as each team shot under 40%, turned the ball over 19 times and entered halftime with only 66 points between them.
Around the NBA:
- There is not a hotter team in sports right now than the Golden State Warriors. Steph Curry’s three in the final minute on Tuesday night kept their winning streak alive, which has since reached 12, and they are the undisputed best team in the NBA. The Warriors, with a .895 winning percentage, are now on pace for 74 wins.
- Cleveland Cavilers picked up where they left off last week, and have now won six in a row.
- Derek Fisher and the Knicks are struggling mightily, having only won 4 of 22 games.
