It was a night in which the Flyers showed the NHL they would continue to be at top of their game. Eric Lindros led the Flyers with a four-point evening as they handed the Nashville Predators an 8-0 bludgeoning.
Flyers goalie John Vanbiesbrouck picked up the win, facing just 24 shots as the Flyers dominated the Predators, scoring four times on the power play. It was the Flyers third consecutive shutout, outscoring their opponents, 15-0, in the three games.
In the first period, the lack of discipline did the Predators in as the Flyers slammed home three power-play goals. The first, by Dan McGillis, came at 5:38. Seven minutes later, Lindros scored his 22nd of the year at 12:17 to make it 2-0. John LeClair would get his 24th of the year just a couple of minutes later at 14:31 to make it 3-0. Lindros assisted on both and had a three-point night after twenty minutes.
The onslaught continued in the second period as Keith Jones put the Flyers up 4-0 and LeClair scored his second of the night and 25th of the year at 9:34 on the power play. Another assist from Lindros gave him three for the game. The Flyers outshot Nashville, 17-5, in that period and took a 5-0 lead into the third.
In the final period, the "supporting cast" got in on the scoring action. Daymond Langkow scored his fifth of the season at 10:40 to make it 6-0. Late in the game, Colin Forbes made it a touchdown difference with his goal at 18:38 and then Alexandre Daigle scored his third of the season, and ironically last as a Flyer, at 19:21 to end the barrage.
Overall, the Flyers outshot the Predators, 41-24, and the Flyers went 4-for-6 on the power play, with 12 different Flyers recording a point.
Two nights later, the Flyers would record their fourth straight shutout, blanking the Washington Capitals, 3-0.
