What an impressive offensive season for Tigers 3B Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera hit .330 with 44 home runs and 139 RBI. The offensive output was enough to give Cabrera the first Triple Crown since Carl Yastrzemski took the honor in 1967. The question remains whether this will be enough for Cabrera to win the American League Most Valuable Player award.
We mentioned before that many were championing Mike Trout to win the MVP award, most notably Keith Law. But, how the writers typically vote may be the better indication of who will win. That Cabrera 1) Led the Detroit Tigers to a playoff berth (clearly they would not be playoff-bound without him) 2) played the full season (Trout spent the first month in the minors) likely gives Cabrera the edge with voters.
The Kansas City Royals fans gave Cabrera a standing ovation as he was given a curtain call by manager Jim Leyland. Yes – the OPPOSING crowd gave him a standing ovation. It is a feat I'm sure any baseball fan can appreciate.
I know one thing: I do NOT miss Miguel Cabrera playing for the Marlins.
