Tori and Nick Foles Suffer Miscarriage

Very early on the in the free agent process of 2019, quarterback Nick Foles agreed to a new deal with the Jaguars that would pay him $88 million over the next four years.

This was on the heels of Jacksonville hiring his former quarterbacks coach from Philadelphia to be their new offensive coordinator.

It seemed like the perfect situation for Foles to go to, other than the Eagles, who could not pay him that type of money. The Jaguars simply needed to begin to build an offense that worked around Foles.

But with a new team comes a new playbook and new teammates to build chemistry with. It is especially important for the starting quarterback to be there to build this chemistry. That made it very odd that Nick Foles was not at the first couple of the Jaguars’ OTAs.

Foles has never been the type of player to take the contract and then not work and he seemed to be in a positive situation, so there certainly seemed to be something wrong.

On Wednesday night, Tori Foles, Nick’s wife, opened up about what the family is going through on Instagram.

Our weekend together was not quite as planned, but blessed by their presence and the help they provided us with an unexpected set of circumstances that nick and I suddenly found ourselves in. As several of you knew, we were about 15 weeks pregnant with our 2nd baby. Early Sunday morning after a rough couple days fighting a “virus” of some sort, I went into sudden labor and knew something was wrong. Not long after we learned we had miscarried our baby boy. To fully labor and deliver and even see our baby boy was a pretty devastating process. Come to find that I had contracted an infection of pneumonia in the blood. The emotions go back and forth from immense and overwhelming sadness, confusion and anger to a firm belief that God has this fully in his hands and will use this for good. We cannot always understand or explain, but we know that is true. We’ve endured some unique challenges as a couple so far, but never quite knew what something like this felt like and now we do. We have so much compassion and sensitivity to those who have gone through a miscarriage at any point and in any circumstance. We know they all happen very differently. We are finally home from the hospital and recovering physically from the infection with antibiotics (already much better) as well as emotionally from this traumatic loss. This will take time. So many thanks to everyone who has reached out to us and who has been praying for us. Also a heartfelt thank you to Baptist Beaches hospital staff in maternity. What an incredible team of doctors and nurses that took care of us the last 4 days. ❤️ Thank you Taylor family for being here this weekend. We had a pretty fun weekend planned, and it was turned upside down, but God knew we needed you. ❤️

An unfortunate miscarriage caused by pneumonia is what forced Foles to miss those first few OTAs. You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who will argue that skipping a few OTAs was not the right thing to do in that situation.

Nick and Tori Foles have a daughter who was famous in an iconic photo of Foles and his daughter following the Eagles win in Super Bowl LII, but were set to welcome their first son.

Foles returned to the Jaguars OTAs on Thursday morning according to Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

Nick Foles is back with the #Jaguars today to resume OTA work with his teammates. Foles has been away for a few days to be with his wife, Tori, and family following her miscarriage.

Foles spent five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, making the Pro Bowl in 2013 and bringing the franchise its first Super Bowl Championship en route to being named the Super Bowl LII MVP. As great as he was on the field for the City of Brotherly Love, he is an even better person off the field.

Foles and the Jaguars will not play the Eagles unless both teams make an appearance in Super Bowl LIV, so Eagles fans will, and absolutely should, be rooting for Foles in 2019.
