It seemed like the perfect start for Cliff Lee. He struck out the side in the first. He retired the first nine batters in a row. He fell victim to some bad defense and ultimately made a really bad pitch to recently called up shortstop prospect Wilfredo Tovar in his major league debut and he drove in the tying run and the go ahead came in on an error from Domonic Brown.
Lee didn't pitch bad. B.J. Rosenberg would allow a run and Jonathan Papelbon held them to a one run deficit. It wasn't the most inspiring day at the plate for the Phillies as Carlos Torres pitched pretty well and held the Phillies to two runs over six innings.
It seemed like a game the Mets were giving away. Their line up wasn't strong but it was strong enough for the win and the Phillies concluded their 2013 home campaign by being swept by the Mets.
The Phillies fly down to Miami for three at it will be Roy Halladay vs. Nathan Eovaldi at 7:10.
