Today, the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens shared the practice field at the Novacare Complex for the final time before playing tomorrow night's second preseason game.
Today's practice might not have been as intense as the previous practices between the two teams because the practice was essentially a walk-through.
Last year's first-round draft pick, Marcus Smith might miss the remainder of the preseason with a right-hamstring injury.
This preseason was crucial for Smith, who had trouble getting any playing time with the Eagles as a rookie.
Eagles' defensive coordinator Bill Davis was pleased with Smith's progression from year one to year two, but he admits that this injury may stutter the outside linebacker's development.
"I'm glad it wasn't major, he was taking some growth steps," Davis said. "It's a setback."
Since the Eagles are now short at outside linebacker, the team plans to use inside linebackers Brad Jones and Emmanuel Acho at the position.
Additionally, the team may ask defensive end Vinny Curry to drop back into the linebacker spot on occasion.
In related news, quarterback Sam Bradford is poised to make his debut with the Eagles tomorrow night.
Bradford is thrilled to finally get back on the field after recovering from a torn ACL for the second consecutive season.
"I think I'm excited to get back on the field, first of all," Bradford said. "It's been a long time. Obviously, last year I felt I worked really hard to get back to being in football shape and I was ready to go. And then, obviously, I got hurt again."
Bradford may be impressing teammates and the coaching staff throughout training camp so far, but lets remember that he was wearing a red jersey. He has yet to feel a real pass rush or take a sack in a long time.
Bradford simply wants to get that first big hit over with. He is optimistic that he will bounce right back up.
"I think it's always good to get that first hit out of the way." he said. "You never like to get hit, but I think sometimes it gets you in the flow of the game. Hopefully it doesn't happen, hopefully it's not a big shot, but I wouldn't hate going to the ground once and getting up and knowing that I'm going to be OK."
Without a doubt, when Bradford gets dropped for the first time, all in attendance at Lincoln Financial Field will hold their collective breathe and await how Bradford responds.
Like Bradford said, hopefully he gets right back up and ready for another hit.
We will find out how Bradford and the rest of the Eagles pan out when the Eagles host the Ravens tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
