Training Camp Notes: Shurmur speaks, Bradford, running backs

The Philadelphia Eagles held their ninth training camp session today, and things are starting to heat up.

Prior to practice, offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur addressed the media.

Shurmur is impressed by tight end Zach Ertz's development as a blocker.

"I think he's a more efficient blocker," Shurmur said. "Again, he's doing better with his feet, he's doing a better job of hitting his target, and then depending on where the play is run, he has a little bit better idea of the defender is going to try to beat him and then how to finish the block."

Also, Shurmur is excited to about DeMarco Murray and the other running backs on the Eagles roster and their ability to be patient in the backfield.

"Well, I think [Murray's] a guy that's got very good vision, and I think by having good vision, you know when it's time to hit the hole or do something else," Shurmur said. "I think that can be said, also, about Ryan Matthews and then certainly Darren Sproles."

Here are some noteworthy observations from today's training camp:

  • Quarterback Sam Bradford is still moving around a bit tentatively, but that isn't preventing him from dropping dime-after-dime to multiple Eagles receivers.
  • Defensive back Jaylen Watkins took first-team repetitions at the slot corner back position.
  • Offensive lineman Andrew Gardener took first-team snaps at right guard. He's currently in competition with Matt Tobin, Julian Vandervelde and John Moffitt.
  • Linebacker Mychal Kendricks was limited in today's practice.
  • Quarterback Tim Tebow had a rough practice. He was intercepted by sixth-round-pick Randall Evans during the team's 1-on-1 drills. Tebow should have been intercepted again by third-round-pick Jordan Hicks, but Hicks dropped the INT.
  • It was an up-and-down day for kicker Cody Parkey. He missed three field goals from inside of 50 yards. Two of them were wide-left and one was wide-right. However, he did make his final three field goal attempts.
  • Injury Report: Kiko Alonso (concussion), Jerome Couplin (appendicitis)  and DeMeco Ryans (rest) all missed practice. Also, Ertz sustained a shoulder injury, but he appears to be fine.
