Triple-A All Star Game Preview

Those seeking a fix to their baseball addiction have an option at 9 pm ET on the MLB Network when the Triple-A All Star Game takes place from Reno, NV. Phillies third baseman in waiting (for now), Cody Asche is the lone representitive from the organization in the IL. Cesar Hernandez was selected as well but has been playing centerfield and was sent to Reading over the Triple-A break to continue his switch to the outfield.  I'm quite interested in what the plan is with Hernandez lately.

Asche has had a really nice season for Triple-A Lehigh Valley and has been one of their more productive batters. He's currently holding a line of .288/.349/.453 with 10 home runs and 56 RBIs. He's swiped 11 bags as well. With Maikel Franco making a lot of noise in Clearwater and Reading this year, Asche's season isn't something to ignore, nor are some of Franco's red flags such as defense and poor plate discipline. Still, it's been a while since the Phillies have had one promising third base prospect, let alone two.

Starting for the PCL side is former Phillies prospect turned Houston prospect Jarred Cosart who is coming off a stellar major league debut in Tampa Bay last week where he took a no-hitter into the 7th and threw eight shut out frames. Other alumni from the Phillies organization including in tonight's contest are Jason Pridie who is playing for Triple-A Norfolk (BALT) and former Reading favorite Tuffy Gosewisch who is currently in Triple-A Reno (ARI).
