I know the Phillies probably have the worst team they've had since entering Citizens Bank Park. I know they also had some cold weather yesterday. These are not conditions that usually draw huge crowds to the ballpark. They certainly didn't do that yesterday. The paid attendance for the Phillies-Marlins series finale was 17,097. At no point did 17,097 pass through the gates, or take a seat. By the time the game ended, maybe half of that was even in the parking lot.
This marks the second time this season I've attended a stadium record-low attended game. I've been to two of the first nine home games. I doubt my entire 17 game plan can go like this, but maybe we are seeing a new trend. Perhaps Philadelphia, which finished last in NBA attendance for the basketball team, just isn't going to turn out to watch this team finish with one of the worst records in the league either. Flyers attendance was down, Sixers attendance was awful, and now Phillies attendance is way off where it's been since moving over to Citizens Bank Park. In fact, to be very honest, it's off anything I remember. Even in the doldrums of the late 1990s, I remember 20,000 being the norm to watch uncompetitive Phillies baseball. Perhaps the fan base is a little more angry right now.
