When Roy Halladay was placed on the 15-Day DL, speculation immediately began as to who would be called up to take his place in the rotation. With Jesse Biddle considered untouchable, the only apparent options were RHP Tyler Cloyd and LHP Adam Morgan. Tonight, Phillies beat reporter Todd Zolecki revealed the Phillies choice.
Tyler Cloyd made his major league debut last August, going six innings and surrendering three runs to the Mets in a 3-2 loss. He ended the season with a 2-2 record in six starts. Though his ERA ended at nearly 5.00, he was a formidable starter for the team toward the end of the season. This season, he is 1-3 with a 5.40 ERA in six starts, averaging nearly a strikeout per inning pitched.
With Cloyd being added to the roster on Friday, a subsequent move must be made. It would seem that recently added Joe Savery would be the odd man out. However, during tonight's game, Tom McCarthy speculated that it may not be Savery. With it more than likely being a pitcher, another bullpen guy is probably headed out (looking at you, Horst).
