Uncertainty Surrounding Domonic Brown for Opening Day

Domonic Brown last took the field Thursday night against the Yankees and the result was an early exit due to a sore Achilles' tendon. Since Thursday, Brown has missed five straight games, but has thrown the ball and received treatment for the soreness.

Brown has been diagnosed with tendinitis in his left Achilles' tendon and has been receiving treatment for it. In the last five days, Brown has stated that he's sure that the rest and treatments have been going well.

"I'm feeling better – much better," Brown said. "I'm going to start running here in the next couple days. I think the time off of not doing anything calmed it down a lot. I'm definitely feeling much better. I'm not even going to lie to you guys, I was a little nervous there before the MRI. To see the progression in the last three or four days, it's been much better. So hopefully I can be back on the field in another week or so, hopefully."

Brown's original diagnosis stated that he could miss up to a week, but with Opening Day just 12 days away, rushing the Phillies outfielder in order to make an Opening Day start could just prove ineffective. Even if Brown remained limited to just simple workouts and playing catch, he would still need to hit live to tune his bat back to quota.

Brown played in 144 games last season, seeing 511 plate appearances and hitting .235 with 10 homers and 63 RBI's.
