All signs were pointing toward the Eagles making a push, and trying to hire Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase as the next head coach. On Wednesday, the most knowing sign showed up.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Gase impressed the Eagles so much, they asked him to return for a second interview over the weekend.
Now, according to a source of CSN Philly's Reuben Frank, Gase has not been offered a second interview.
Frank adds in his story for CSN Philly that while the Eagles were indeed impressed with the coordinator's interview on Tuesday, they are also trying to complete the first round of interviews — which now includes Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson on Sunday and a request to interview Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther — before assessing the candidates.
What makes this story interesting is Gase's meeting with the Miami Dolphins on Thursday. The Dolphins, understanding the Eagles were already bringing Gase back in this weekend, were going to make a strong push to ensure that didn't happen and hire him as soon as possible if the interview goes well. Similarly, Adam Schefter was on 97.5 The Fanatic on Wednesday morning and said that while the Eagles want to let the process play out and not rush into any decision, they also don't want to let Gase get away.
With all of that in mind, it seemed like the Eagles top choice for the job was Gase and that were trying to do as much as they could to keep him available, at least through the weekend, so they could get one more interview in before making any offers.
The process is certainly heating up, but it seems the Eagles have other candidates in mind before making any offers just yet.
