Velasquez, Conley return as Phillies vie for rebound against Marlins

MIAMI — The Philadelphia Phillies (30-61) will oppose southpaw Adam Conley and the Miami Marlins (42-49) Tuesday evening in the second of a three-game set at Marlins Park.

Phillies starter RHP Vince Velasquez returns for his first start since May 30 — also away against the Marlins — having recovered from a right elbow flexor strain. The right-hander is averaging five innings per start this season, having thrown an even 50 frames through 10 outings.

The Marlins' Conley will also make his long-awaited return, having not appeared since May 8. Through six starts and one relief appearance in the 16th inning this season, Conley has combined to surrender 27 runs (24 earned) on 17 singles, four doubles, four triples and four home runs.

The Phillies fell 6-5 to the Marlins in extras during Monday evening's series opener. Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton slugged two home runs, while second baseman Dee Gordon produced the game-winning RBI single in the 10th. Both have been linked to the Phillies in recent trade rumors, including center fielder Christian Yelich, who went 0-4 with a walk and two strikeouts in the contest.

Making his first appearance since June 10 due to a strained left oblique, Phillies second baseman Cesar Hernandez went 1-3 with a RBI single, walk and run scored. Rookie outfielder Nick Williams produced a pair of doubles and RBIs in the defeat.
