Though Bryce Harper began to make a case for being the best player in the league last season, Los Angeles Angels' outfielder Mike Trout has unquestionably been baseball's best player over the course of the last four seasons, winning one MVP and finishing as the runner-up the other three seasons.
Trout, of course, is from Millville, New Jersey, and is frequently seen at Philadelphia Eagles' games or tweeting about them. Because of that, and the hope that he will join what should be a very good Philadelphia Phillies team after his current contract expires in 2020, he's earned a special place in the hearts of Philadelphia sports fans.
Trout also does a good job of coming off as a normal guy, and continued that this afternoon when he made time to call into the Weather Channel to discuss the snow-storm that has spent the better part of the last 24 hours wreaking havoc on the northeast.
Here, via Hardball Talk, is a transcript of what Trout had to say.
“Yeah, it’s been crazy, for sure. Obviously up all night, up every hour, checking the measurements. We probably got about a foot and it’s coming down steady right now. The wind was the worst part about it. It’s blowing hard. There’s probably, by my parents’ house, four to five, six-foot drifts. The roads are terrible. It’s just awesome. I love it.”
Trout seemed to speak better than Jim Cantore, who referred to the Los Angeles Angels as the "California Angels" twice and also used the word "funnest" in the video. Being that Cantore has the undesirebale job of having to be perfect while being out in this weather, he probably deserves a pass for those small mistakes.
As for Trout, hopefully the major power outages that he alluded to don't creep into Pennsylvania more and he begins to realize that he loves living in his snowy hometown so much that he would like to go to a team that plays in an area (not either of the ones in New York) that would allow him to live here all year long. Los Angeles can't do that. (It's always fun trying to make Philadelphia sound like a more attractive place to play for a superstar than Los Angeles, isn't it?)
