A back-and-forth affair entered the final stages of regulation. It seemed the Philadelphia Flyers were destined for overtime after what looked to be the deciding goal wasn't enough.
That didn't stop the Flyers from forcing a late rally. In the game's final minute, a relentless attack led to a goal by Vincent Lecavalier with 14.8 seconds left that sealed a victory.
That was how the Flyers snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night at First Niagara Center in Buffalo, N.Y.
The Flyers allowed the game's first goal for the third straight game. Cody Hodgson ended up alone in front of the net and beat Steve Mason at 6:59 to open the scoring.
A power-play opportunity early in the second helped the Flyers knot the score. Wayne Simmonds found Jake Voracek in front for the equalizer just 1:40 of the second.
Entering the third, the game was tied at one.
The Sabres would strike for the go-ahead goal at 6:27 of the third, with Matt D'Agostini scoring on a great feed from Steve Ott.
A fortunate bounce led the another tying goal for the Flyers. Scott Hartnell managed to feather the puck in front of the net to Brayden Schenn who fired into an empty net to tie the game.
Moments later, Hartnell scored on the power play to give the Flyers the lead. But the lead was short-lived as the Flyers allowed the tying goal right back to the Sabres. This time, it was Tyler Ennis firing a shot past Mason from a sharp angle to even things back up with 3:13 left.
With time winding down, the Flyers were on the verge of beating Jhonas Enroth, who had made several game-saving stops already, as Sean Couturier and Matt Read battled around the crease. The puck made it's way back to Lecavalier who scored top shelf with 14.8 seconds remaining.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Flyers and helped move them back into a tie for third in the Metropolitan Division.
The Flyers next play on home ice as they open a stretch with five home games in the next seven games. The first is against the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.
