Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds was at the forefront of the team's two wins this past week in San Jose and Anaheim. Simmonds was named the third star of the week by the NHL. Captials forward Alex Ovechkin was the week's first star and Vegas goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury was the week's second star.
Simmonds made Flyers history by scoring a hat trick in the season opener, the first for any Flyer in the team's first game of the season. Simmonds also added a fourth goal at a crucial time for the team, 44 seconds into overtime on Saturday in a 3-2 win over the Ducks.
Simmonds' four goals lead the team early in the season, and actually account for half of the team's goals through three games. The veteran forward is coming off back-to-back 30-goal seasons.
It has been a big week for Simmonds, who not only recorded the hat trick on Wednesday, the second of his career, but also notched his 400th career point with the second goal in San Jose.
Simmonds and the Flyers return to the ice on Tuesday night to face the Nashville Predators.
