Less than an hour before the Flyers take on the New Jersey Devils, the Flyers announced yet another injury.
Jordan Weal, the 23-year-old forward acquired in the trade that sent Vincent Lecavalier and Luke Schenn to the Los Angeles Kings, will be out a minimum of three weeks with an upper-body injury, GM Ron Hextall announced.
Weal was potentially set to play in his fourth game with the Flyers on Tuesday night, as he had taken the morning skate as part of the second power-play unit. Weal has no points and has a plus-1 rating in three games.
The Flyers currently have forward Sean Couturier and defenseman Michael Del Zotto out long-term and though Weal now joins that list, he isn't as costly of a loss. Weal had struggled to crack the lineup since being acquired.
Hextall also offered updates on Couturier and Del Zotto which came on both ends of the spectrum.
According to Hextall, Couturier is set to meet with doctors on Wednesday and could be ahead of schedule and potentially back in the lineup within the next two weeks.
On the other hand, Del Zotto's injury is much more serious and potentially "season ending" according to Hextall. Hextall also said that a further update on Del Zotto would be provided on Wednesday.
