This is the way the Eagles were supposed to play. Week in and week out, this is how the Eagles were supposed to handle opponents.
It took them six weeks to deliver such a performance. But given the opponent and the stakes, even this early in the season, it couldn't have come at a better time.
Here are this week's grades for this week's shutout win over the Giants in our Weekly Report Card.
Pass offense: The passing game did some very good things. I don't think you can ask for a better play than Nick Foles touchdown pass to Zach Ertz, where both the throw and catch were excellent. It's hard to argue with the type of game all receivers gave as well. The balance was there throughout the game. But Foles still made some questionable throws and has to eliminate very unnecessary interceptions. Hey, a 27-0 win doesn't make it a perfect game. B+
Run offense: This game was a credit to the perseverence of LeSean McCoy. He's been in the shadow of Darren Sproles all season, even after a year in which he won a rushing title, and he finally broke out on Sunday night. Sproles joined in too, showing the 1-2 punch the Eagles have in the backfield. McCoy did nearly fumble one good run away, but as long as McCoy holds onto the ball, these are the numbers you like to see. A
Pass defense: Pass defense is two-fold. There are rushers and there is coverage. The coverage, at times, was still shaky. So, if grading fairly, the grade has to be docked immediately for some plays that just looked too easy for Eli Manning. But the pass rush, led by Connor Barwin and Vinny Curry, had its best game of the season by far. For several weeks, this aspect of the Eagles defense has been excellent. They delivered again in a big way this week too. A-
Run defense: Is there any one run in this game for the Giants that truly stands out? There isn't. The Giants longest run of the night was 17 yards. They had another that was 12 yards. And that proved to be a big chunk of the 85 total yards they managed on Sunday night. Wherever a white jersey moved, a wall of black jerseys waited. A
Special teams: Every week, they just seem to get better. Chris Maragos, one of the under-the-radar signings of the offseason, managed to partially block a punt. Another block from Malcolm Jenkins on one of Sproles punt returns would have tied a franchise record with eight return touchdowns this season. Cody Parkey continued to be as consistent as any kicker in the league, making both field goal attempts from 31 and 45 yards. And even Donnie Jones put together a memorable night. He had six punts and five of them were inside the 20 and three inside the 10. An all-around good night for this unit as a whole. A
Overall: Given some of the Eagles other performances this season, this was about as polished as you are expected to see. Good offense, dominant defense and even special teams finding a way to get in on the fun. Perhaps the best part of this win was that the Eagles played a full 60 minutes and didn't have to worry about losing a lead or making up a deficit. They were in control from start to finish, something that championship caliber teams do week in and week out. A-
