Things seemed to be at an all-time high this season following the Eagles Thanksgiving Day win over the Cowboys.
Sunday brought that high crashing down in the Eagles worst performance of the season. There is no way to sugarcoat this, the Eagles were horrible in their loss to the Seahawks.
Here is this week's report card.
Pass offense: The Eagles only threw the ball 20 times. Twice, things couldn't have gone better: Mark Sanchez two touchdown passes. But for most of the day, Sanchez was off – he completed just 10 passes – and his interception was his worst throw of the game. D
Run offense: LeSean McCoy set the new franchise record for career rushing yards. But his lack of focus, even for good reason, just eliminated the run game altogether. Darren Sproles wasn't there to save the Eagles or their running game. They could do very little on the run. D-
Pass defense: Again, it's a split grade. The front seven certainly made Russell Wilson uncomfortable at times and the pass rush was very good again. Credit Connor Barwin, Mychal Kendricks and Trent Cole for that. But the Eagles lack of a secondary wasn't just noticeable, it may have been at its worst. Seahawks receivers were open all game. Malcolm Jenkins missed interception – which would have been six points – was icing on the cake. C
Run defense: The Eagles, for the most part, really didn't let Marshawn Lynch be a factor. That's a huge deal. Again, credit goes to Kendricks and add in another solid game for Fletcher Cox. But aside from that, it was a huge 26-yard touchdown for Wilson that really shifted the game in favor of Seattle. D+
Special teams: The kicking game was really a non-factor. The punt coverages were solid as well. The Eagles really owe their two touchdowns to special teams. A fumble on a punt was recovered by Zach Ertz and put the Eagles inside the 20. Josh Huff's kick return to the Eagles 46 set up the second touchdown. If not for that, the Eagles may not have scored at all. B
Overall: The Eagles worst game of the season offensively overshadowed a modest defensive effort. And even the defense wasn't that good down the stretch, in an area where one play could have changed the course of the game. Lack of an offensive game plus a coach getting schooled are reason enough to call this loss a total failure. D
