Weekly Report Card: Sanchez being Sanchez
There is no need to meander around what you know is already coming, so let's just get right to it.
Here is this week's report card.
Pass Offense: Mark Sanchez is what he is. He actually started the game pretty well. His first drive, in fact, couldn't have gone any better. From there, it was a nightmare. He had one good play, the 35-yard screen touchdown to Darren Sproles that was more Sproles hard work and determination than Sanchez' ability. Three interceptions again? Just inexcusable. D
Run Offense: I had a feeling that the loss of Ryan Mathews would hurt and it did. DeMarco Murray never found a rhythm and the Eagles running game never really got off the ground. Sure, the rushed for 139 yards, but that was really after the main damage had been done. D+
Pass Defense: Five touchdown passes for Jameis Winston. I don't think I need to say much more. The rookie quarterback had all day to throw and when he did, he was often finding the endzone. F
Run Defense: Doug Martin also had a field day. Simply put, when you give up runs of 58 and 84 yards, the only surprising thing here is that they weren't for scores. A pitiful effort by the defense wasn't the only reason the Eagles lost, but it was the biggest reason why the score came out the way it did. F
Special Teams: Well, they were certainly in action a lot. Nothing really notable to see here. Caleb Sturgis made his only field goal attempt from 43 yards in garbage time essentially. C-
Overall: This was probably the worst game we've seen from an Eagles since Chip Kelly took over, which says a lot considering that by this point in Kelly's tenure, they were supposed to be peaking and improving. They are regressing badly and the team is in shambles. Take just a few pieces out of the lineup and the entire thing is a trainwreck, as Sunday's game was. F
