The Eagles swept the Washington redskins for the first time since 2013 after a four touchdown performance from Carson Wentz under the lights at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday Night Football.
The Eagles got off to an abysmal start on Monday night. After surrendering a field goal on the first drive of the game the offense committed four penalties in its first four plays. The opening drive also claimed Jordan Hicks, who was playing with an ankle injury.
Hicks re-injured the ankle and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
With the Eagles pinned at their own 3-yard line Wentz uncorked a ball down the field that missed Torrey Smith wildly and was intercepted by Quinton Dunbar.
The defense would force a punt and the Eagles would eventually tie the game on a 50-yard field goal from Jake Elliott – his 11th consecutive successful attempt.
The Redskins would attack the center of the field with Hicks out, and found great success when Kirk Cousins connected with Vernon Davis for a 31-yard gain.
With Washington On the Eagles 7-yard line Cousins found Chris Thompson on a screen pass for a touchdown, giving the Redskins a 10-3 lead.
With the Eagles down 10-3 – just like they were against Carolina – the offense began to click. After taking a bad sack due to his own hesitation, Wentz threw a ball that traveled 60-yards in the air before landing in Mack Hollins's hands for a 64-yard touchdown. An Elliott extra point tied the game at 10. This was Hollins's first career touchdown.
The Eagles would do it again on their next drive. Wentz would find Zach Ertz for a huge 46-yard gain to get the Eagles down the field. After navigating the red zone Wentz would go to Ertz again for a 4-yard touchdown pass.
The Eagles took a 17-10 lead into halftime.
The Eagles deferred the opening kick, and went to work immediately to start the second half. Wentz capped off a 10-play 81-yard drive with a highlight reel throw we will be seeing for a long time in Philadelphia.
After slipping one would-be sack, Wentz took a hit from multiple defenders while fitting a ball into an extremely tight window to Glassboro, NJ native Corey Clement for a 9-yard touchdown, Wentz's third in as many drives and third consecutive game with three touchdown passes.

After the two teams traded punts the Redskins would get one back. On a drive where the Eagles made good plays on first and second down throughout, Kirk Cousins just kept finding a way to get first downs with his back against the wall.
Cousins would find Jordan Reed for a 5-yard touchdown and pull the Redskins within one score as the teams approached the final quarter.
The Eagles answered right away to start the fourth quarter on a drive where Carson Wentz showed his mastery again.
Facing a third down, Wentz was mobbed by the Redskins defense. It appeared as though Wentz was going to crushed, when suddenly he emerged from the swarm to run for a first down.

This drive would end with Wentz throwing his fourth touchdown pass of the night to Nelson Agholor from 10 yards out.
The following drive was the decisive one in the game. With the Redskins needing a score the Eagles defense rose to the occasion. After pressuring Cousins relentlessly Brandon Graham would get a hand on Cousins's arm as he threw. Graham altered the throw and the ball went right into Corey Graham's stomach for a momentous interception.
The Eagles would take a 34-17 lead after a 42-yard Jake Elliott field goal.
The Redskins would make it a two score game with a late touchdown from Kirk Cousins to Jordan Reed.
Carson Wentz finished the game with 268 yards, four touchdowns, one interception on 17/25 passing. Wentz now leads the NFL with 17 passing touchdowns. He also added 64 yards rushing.
Wentz became just the second Eagles quarterback in team history to have three passing touchdowns in three consecutive games since Bobby Thomason in 1953 according to ESPN Stats & Info.
The Eagles did lose Jason Peters and Jordan Hicks to injury in this game. Both injuries look to be serious as both players were carted off of the field.
The Eagles now stand alone with the best record in the NFL after seven weeks of play at 6-1. They are also 3-0 against opponents form the NFC East this season. They will host the winless San Francisco 49ers next week.
