Here's what went right with the 2014 Phillies, as few as this list is:
- Cole Hamels- He might have been the least lucky pitcher in baseball, but he was really, really good. His opening month health scare not withstanding, his year was nearly perfect.
- Ken Giles- The young righty was dominating with his high-90s gas. The most important pitch for him was his devastating slider though.
- Marlon Byrd- This move seemed like an overpay in the off-season, but it paid off. Byrd lived up to any expectation I had at least.
- Jonathan Papelbon, on the field- I'd say 39 of 43 with an ERA around two is pretty great.
- David Buchanan- I had no expectations here. He was very good.
- Jake Diekman- He started poorly, but he finished strong and struck out 100 batters this season.
- Ben Revere- Another slow starter, but he finished with a great run, leading the NL in hits.
- Justin De Fratus- Not much can be said bad about his season.
That's about it for this season.
