If you have been following the Phillies' Spring Training games recently, you may have noticed that backup catcher Brian Schneider started the first few games.

The reason, according to Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes, is that starter Carlos Ruiz has traveled back to Panama to be with his wife, who is about to have their child by cesarian section.

Placido Polanco is quoted in the piece as saying Ruiz is the "horse" of the team.  Here it is, in my best Spanglish possible:

"Carlos is the real leader of this team. Everyone looks at our great rotation and lineup, but obviously, Chooch is the conductor of all horses sent to the mound."

In English, "conductor" would be whoever holds the reigns of the horses… I think.
