According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the Chicago White Sox have signed former Phillies outfielder John Mayberry Jr. to a minor league deal.
Mayberry, 31, batted .164/.227/.318 with three home runs and nine-runs-batted as a New York Met this season before being released on July 30. He signed with New York to a one-year deal worth $1.45 million on December 15.
The seven-year veteran played 500 games as a Phillie, and was acquired via trade from the Texas Rangers on November 20, 2008 for outfielder Greg Golson.
While in red pinstripes, Mayberry batted .242/.304/.429 with 74 doubles, two triples, 52 home runs and 169 runs-batted-in over 1,370 plate appearances. On August 31 of last season, he was dealt to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for minor league third baseman Gustavo Pierre.
Mayberry finished the 2014 season north of the border with just five hits in 30 plate appearances. He was granted free agency on December 2.
The White Sox will be Mayberry's third team since being dealt from Philadelphia. He will reportedly join Triple-A Charlotte, according to Rubin.
