Williams, Phillies look to shut down Marlins improved offense

After losing three out of four from the Cardinals, the Phillies (8-15) head to Miami tonight to begin a three-game series with the Marlins (10-12). These two teams met in Philadelphia for three games, April 21st-23rd. The Phillies took game one, 7-3, behind tonight's starting pitcher, Jerome Williams. The Marlins won the final two games by a combined score of 15-2. The Marlins have been playing very well as of late, but are 7-1 over their last eight games and have outscored their opponents 44-13 in that time. Tonight, Jerome Williams will look to cool down the Marlins bats while Tom Koehler gets the ball for Miami, aiming to keep up their hot play as of late.

With the exception of one start this season, Jerome Williams (2-1, 3.80) has held opposing teams to three runs or less, which is really all the Phillies can ask for out of the 33-year-old right-hander. Williams has already faced the Marlins once this season, earning the win after tossing six innings and giving up just two earned runs while striking out six in the process. He earned a win in his last start at home against the Braves, pitching 6 2/3 innings and giving up three runs in the Phils 5-4 win over Atlanta.

Meanwhile, the Marlins will look to Tom Koehler (2-2, 4.50) as the fish hope to continue streaking since starting the season 3-10. Koehler's last start against the Nationals was impressive during the Marlins 8-0 win. The 28-year-old out of Stony Brook College shut the Washington offense out over 7 1/3 innings. He's allowed just two runs or less in three out of his first four starts this season. His ERA is in the high mid four's after he gave up seven runs to the Mets back on April 19th.
